I know first hand how expensive insurance is here in the US, but hospital costs are through the roof as well... it's tough.

who of you guys have proper insurance or just accident insurance?

Did you ever need it/ use it??
I have health insurance through my work. Instead of the base HMO plan, I have a PPO plan for which I have to pay a bit more.

I used it for bronchitis once. LOL

I assume this thread is more pointed at those who live the hardcore rider lifestyle instead of the office bitch like myself.

Luckily i have it through work, hospital costs are just plain crazyyyyy. Two years ago i wiped bad while riding had to go to the ER, they thought i ruptured my spleen and was having internal bleeding, it would have costed me a ton of money with out health insurance. with all the tests they ran, ended up just bruising my ribs. U never know when u are going to need it or u just cant predict u are not going to need it for anything

The last time I had insurance Clinton was president. 2 years ago I broke my hand closing day at Breck and knew I couldn't afford the hospital visit so I just went to work instead. When I lived in Steamboat I speared myself on a broken tree and chipped my hip and couldn't afford that either.

This year I think I'll invest in accident insurance.

something you guys should look into is accident insurance if you don't get sick. A new product catering to action sports participants is XSI- Xtreme Sports Insurance. It starts at $17 a month and covers all normal injuries. XSI won't cover a hip replacement but will cover you if you break your leg, cut your head open, dislocate your shoulder, etc. XSI can be used standalone or in addition to your regular insurance so you don't get hosed on the co pays. I rode 100+ days a year for many years being a ski bum and would have been all over this, luckily I never had any major injuries back then. I have countless friends right now who are still paying for injuries or simply can't afford it. Check out the site http://xsinow.com, it's kinda cheese right now but you can get an idea for what it covers. Yea, I know shameless plug.

I have insurance through work. It's madly expensive, and so is the COBRA payment if I run my hour bank dry. On the other hand, it's still cheaper than paying for a blown knee or shoulder out of pocket.

yeah why is insurance so freakin' expensive and why does my Dutch insurance sees Canada the same as the US!

F-ing stupid, I need to get a global Dutch insurance cause I can't get insured by the BC healthcare yet, the whole world is covered except for the US and Canada! why?

Anyway will probably get a private temporary Canadian insurance for CAN$ 500 and will be covered for costs up to $50.000 for the next 6 months, not that bad.
