I assume there are a lot of students/young'ns as well as industry people up in here.

Me? I'm a business intelligence/marketing web analyst for a search engine. I basically look at how our website performs relative to our marketing costs and how much revenue we bring in daily, monthly, quarterly, annually. Numbers, numbers and more numbers. I provide reporting data and actionable analyses based on the data.

Alas, I think I'd rather be outdoors, shredding, or doing something related to that. Any resorts looking to hire a BI analyst/manager who can report and optimize their marketing/media? I only ask for shredding days, working nights and a season pass...oh and some money. LOL
i work in a cell biology lab..a slave to my work bench..looking for the cure to cancer (or an explanation of it)

i'd much rather be a rally racer/grease monkey/athlete/shredder of all sorts

Question:

Will there ever be a cure for all cancers? because if there is do you know how many people will be on this earth?
does the cancer researchers purposely hold off on cures for population control??

I'm a union pipefitter, and right now I'm helping to build a factory that will make solar panels when it's operating. Makes for long days, but there's no trouble taking winters off to shred.

That sounds pretty cool, a factory making solar panels. I always thought building was neat but I don't quite think it's for me. Construction, cleaning skyscraper windows, & building furniture. Those are all pretty cool.

I'm a secretary at an orthodox school grades 1-6. I'm the attendance lady/ recess lady/ school secretary. I try to get the kids not to do stupid things to get into trouble but they do it anyway... today the 8th grade boys went on the roof to get the ball they threw up there... I was too late to stop them. They ended up with detention... I promise I wasn't the one to give them detention, another teacher caught em.

I'd rather be- well if I figured it out I'd be on it. I was working as a snowboard instructor and that was like never never land. So I decided to be practical and try and find a real job. Still figuring that out.

oh and I applied to oakley aswell when I lived in CA. along with nixon and all those companies out there... ah the action sports industry.

@ missambitions

How many people can say that they helped save someone's life, that is amazing!

@Thadoc
I am all for population control, but seriously!!!.. you obviously have not lost anyone to cancer.
FYI- United States is at zero population growth , basically our birthrate is at the lowest it has ever been and I believe it was obtained through education of birth control not elitistism.

As for my job, gosh I have done everything from landscaping(fun) , been a bartender(2muchfun), a waitress(ok) and for the past few years retail management(sucks). I have played with the idea of opening my own shop, but I'd have to commit to staying in one place... someday, maybe=)

@boka well if you must know i lost my grandpa to prostate cancer, yeah it sucked to lose him but thats life.
Lets see lost 2 people to traffic accidents, one to suicide, one to a train wreck, so i've had my share of fucked up loses, I asked a simple question so dont get so offended.
did you learn that fun fact on wiki? did angry post it?

@ Thadoc
Firstly, I am sorry to hear of your loss and secondly although I am a fan of dark humor, I guess somethings I don't find funny . No I believe its a common fact, but no worries

For the last 7 months I've been a bum, waiting for my work permit to get approved, looks like I've been waiting for Jack $hit :-@ With the high unemployment rate immigration doesn't want my employer to hire me there goes my dream future.

So you might wonder what kinda job I do eh? well I'm a custom integration technician, I install private movie theatres, multi room audio/video systems and full home control systems. There's not really an education for this which makes it hard to convince immigration that the work I do is special and not everybody can do it without any experience so give me the damn work permit!

haha..i'm really flattered you guys like my job..but seriously..it's not as glamorous as it sounds..

basically cancer in it's simplest definition is uncontrolled cell growth. @Thadoc35 i actually lost my mom to cancer too, so i know how you feel. kinda ironic how i'm doing research in this area as well..haha, it's funny how things turn out.

@boka i hope i get to touch someone's life haha..by the time i die i hope to contribute something to society..haha life isn't always about fame and fortune :)

but yeah, cancer..uncontrolled cell growth..a cell is basically a super intense factory with a bazillion processes going on..scientists have only been studying cell division for only about 50 years now..there's tons and tons of proteins that we still don't know/don't understand/don't know how they function..and what's funny is removing these proteins can affect cell growth and cause them to either die or grow uncontrollably

@Thadoc45 haha i think the way to finding a cure for cancer lies in understanding the beginning, the underlying processes/signaling networks of cancer and what triggers it..gotta know where to start in order to get to the end..but i'm hopeful..there's a lot of bright minds in this world willing to dedicate their lives to push the research (like me!! :] )

but basically, my job in a nutshell is..i use half a million dollar microscopes to blast cancer cells with lasers and look at the proteins that are affected :)
