Keystone is by far the most ghetto resort in Summit County. People can argue with me all they want but it seriously is ghetto. Generally this resort sits in the sun really early in the morning but by mid day the sun has peaked the resort tossing it into the shadows. If Lake Dillon hasn't frozen over then they get less snow fall than all the other resorts in the county. The park sometimes has rhyme and reason other times it looks like they took a picture of it put it on a dart board slapped feature names on the darts and threw it at the picture. This resort is the true definition of the shit show. I do like that they get a solid preseason park up early and its fun as hell.

★★★

Man for some one who lives in Summit you really don't like any of the Mountains do you? Why do you move to the alps or something man? The Stone is awesome as long as you get there early and make your way all the way back slowey making your way back to the front side to catch some bad ass groomers for night riding. And the park is off the chain... WTF man I will help you move all your shit to an area where there are more suiting mountains for your super high standards..... Maybe the moon has a mountain with perfect snow all day and night long? Maybe its even on the dark side of the moon?

Hey if you want to go ride a shitty resort go for it. It's a fucking ghetto resort when it comes to being a "destination".

As long as you keep spreading that slander, maybe the tourists will stay off it, and allow me to enjoy it even more!! KEEP SPREADING IT! I support you!

Slander haha it's the truth.

i guess i just don't understand why you would be concerned about keystone being a "destination" where you're a colorado local. i would much rather most tourists stay home and leave my shredding hills to me and my friends. it's nice to have a resort actually cater to locals instead of tourists. maybe you should move to vail, angry. seriously. they have a really big heated gondola and plenty of gapes walking around in chanel one-piecers - super classy. you could sip hot chocolate and have someone shine your snowboard boots.

HAHA Amen to that! I even hear Vail's hills erupt with crystal champagne two times a day. Bring your wine cup and sip some bubbly with them beverly hills wannabes!

FYI Locals don't drive the business up here. If you believe that then you have no clue how Summit County operates, but living in Denver I wouldn't expect to understand that. You need the tourists to thrive and that's that. Season passes are like 10% of their revenue, day tickets, and people staying in the lodging make up over 50% of that. The 100 day a year rider, the local weekend warrior, and people like that aren't what keeps resorts in Summit County afloat plain and simple.

The only good thing about Keystone is the park and that's that, rest of the mountain is pure shit.

i'm sure all of us understand that tourists drive resort revenue. that desn't negate the fact that some resorts are stepping up to make locals feel more at home even when a million tourists are pizza pie-ing down the hill.

and who said i live in denver?

lastly, you probably should make up your mind about Area 51 because you just said "The park sometimes has rhyme and reason other times it looks like they took a picture of it put it on a dart board slapped feature names on the darts and threw it at the picture." i would love to see you on park crew somewhere and see what you come up with since you're claiming that such a legitimate park is mediocre. major shred mags seem to think keystone pulling weight, but maybe they're all crazy...

I stick to my guns the only reason to go to Keystone is for Area 51, but it has no rhyme or reason. Look at how it's set up there aren't set lines it's like a stop and go fun factory. Very skate styled, but like I said it seriously looks like they took a picture of the park and threw darts with jib labels at it. Why is it if you want to hit up box, to down urban to wall ride you have to criss cross the whole park to hit those features, or if you're like OK I want to hit this jump line but I'm going to skip out on medium number two to cut over to hit the flat bar then cut hard left to hit the tube and then nail the quarter pipe and pray you have enough speed so when you come out of it you can go hit the up urban then cut over to hit the dice stall? If I'm going to jib all day that's fine, but if I have 3 hours to make some hot laps before work I'd like a little rhyme and reason as to what features I can hit.

There's also an abundance of wasted space that could be utilized since they have a shit ton of jibs. Rather than shove them into the such a confined segment, I.E. the bottom of the medium line of jumps where it intersects the bottom of the top of the medium line of jibs. Then there was the hip that they spent a week making in January/February. That thing was such a waste of snow and space, you'd see maybe a handful of people hit it, but while they were building and shaping that for 3 days the lips to most features went to serious shit because they put all the effort into it, and for what? A feature a handful of people hit that got plowed under for the Launch ramp.

Then look at their pipe set up. 3 seasons ago when the medium pipe was at the bottom of big line you had a solid place to put the pipe, then last year they F'd the whole thing up by making the right wall 3 feet higher than the left wall. This season they pushed to get their pipe open for the Burton Am tour and in the process didn't let the snow settle for long enough so it had those giant gaping holes in it, then they shoved the mini pipe on the other side of it, that limits how much you can cut the pipe because you'll eventually be taking too much away, plus it was like riding one of the taco pipes I used to ride back in the early mid 90's. Super tight transitions with a death cookie factor of 7.

I have friends on park crews I give them ideas all the time, some use it, some don't. I know what they pay their people and it's not worth it to me, to huck my meat for a low wage, with no benefits, especially if I come up short testing a jump and blow my knee out.

Also Keystone does nothing to make their locals feel at home. Who are they impressing with the adds they run every wednesday with the amount of passes they've pulled? Seriously? Ask around and talk to a bunch of the locals and see who has been harassed for riding there by the mountain watch because of the way they dress, or because they were leaving the terrain park and cutting back over to River Run. Might be a bit interesting to hear who has had some issues.

It's like every time you get off the gondola or are cutting over from the backside to A51 you have to run the gauntlet and be aware that there might be a potential because you fit their critieria. Hell I had the head of Ski Patrol even tell me they were openly profiling snowboarders, not skiers, but snowboarders that fit a certain image to take their passes. The guy even went so far as to accuse me of carrying a gun on the slopes, but that's another issue. Now explain to me how that makes a warm and inviting environment for a local. I moved down to Summit County from Steamboat almost 3 years ago, specifically to ride Keystone for its park. In that time I've been run over by 2 mountain watches, attacked by 1, threatened by the head of ski patrol, had to deal with a park lay out that went from being awesome 3 years ago with great flow and rythm to be a cluster fuck, was bitched out for sewing a few patches on my outerwear by both mountain watch and ski patrol, had some minimum wage snow carnie try to pick a fight with me because of the way I put my board in the gondola when it wasn't affecting anything. Oh and to top that all off the head of ski patrol Craig Simson who is a flaming pile of shit, freaked out about what he told me and caused such a commotion Vail Resorts put pressure on my employer and they fired me. So yes tell me how that's a great locals environment, I go to Breck no problems, Copper no problems, Steamboat No problems, Basin no problems, Loveland no problems, Beaver Creek nothing at all. Only at Keystone have I ever encountered serious problems and I know a ton of people that avoid it like the black plague.

Why did WWSRA pull the plug on having on snow demo's at Keystone after SIA and switch to Winter Park? Because so many people in the snowboard industry have issues with the mentality that Keystone projects. I could go on forever about the issues with Keystone and their people running the show. Don't get me wrong I have friends that work up there as well that are great people, but it is far from an inviting atmosphere for locals.
