although i love the west coast's pow, and long for every moment I can get to get out there and just float, i really believe that having the opportunity to learn how to board here in a block of ice has helped me to improve quickly and also appreciate what's truly out there.
the funny thing is, if you start off on the East Coast, and you fly west, and keep going way past the West Coast, you end up in the East. like, whoa.

Ha! The best riders come from the East Coast BUT they all move out West as soon as they can!

Why would that be??

seriously? you think that the best riders come from the east?

is it because we handle the tougher conditions and 'icy-coast' first before we hit the pow?

I learned out west, then moved east. It's pretty rough out here: narrow runs, nothing really gladed, blacks that are blacks because of their incline and tendency to be facing the wind and are blown into sheets of ice, poorly cut features(yes, I said it)... It all lends to being a better rider in general.

Every time I go out west now it's like I've gone to a wonderland.

I know... so true! I am so used to 'push' my board in the ice... when I go out West I can just 'float' ... soooo fun!

AHHH I feel so bad for you guys..... I have never had the opportunity to ride out east. My sister moved to NJ from CO and has gone riding somewheres out that way Vermont maybe? IDK its been a bit sense we talked about it... But she said it was quite icy and there were tons of people on a really small amount of mountain and it was not all that steep? I hope to check it out one day soon.... If for nothing else just to gain more love and respect for this great United States Of America! But I do agree that it would make one a better rider to learn in a harder environment!

"the best riders come from the east?"- that's sort of rude to those who don't come from the east?

People who are good are talented and passionate about the sport enough to ride as much as they can, no matter where they live or what the conditions. And they're adventurous and try different things and travel to experience new terrain. I know a lot of great riders through Shred Betties, and they're from all over the place - PA, CO, MT, Europe, even Texas.

oh and if you think all we ride out west is powder... i wish! It hasn't snowed in Aspen in 3 weeks, and we're having a freak warm spell, causing a bit of a freeze/thaw - so it's all ice... ugh.

Yes we have shit weeks with no fresh snow.... But the pow pow days far out weigh the warm shit days!
